My Hunny and the babies and me went to my mom's annual fundraiser dinner at Scott's Seafood Bar and Grill in Jack London Square. The event was really nice. Since my dad was an "event sponser" (which means he donated $1500 to buy a table) the family got to sit together. My mom sat at the head table along with other people who would speak, namely other women and one teenager who had formerly been victims of domestic violence and survived. This event, which they named Voices of Courage, was sold out. My mom was soooo happy. She was soooo nervous since this was her first event as the Exec. Director of the Family Violence Law Center. Man, it felt like a mini family reunion. Or rather a reunion of alot of other women my mom has worked with in the past. And when I say past, I mean the waaaaaaay back past to like dayum near when I was a teenager. My father was hilarious he "found" an old white guy that he works with and invited him also. The guy made a donation to the organization so it was cool. But it was a trip cuz he was like the token white guy at our table. And yall know our table was LOUD, LOL. We can't help it. And on top of it all, ours was the only table with 5 children sittin on laps, booster seats, and in high chairs. Babies was talking, rather loudly, throwin bread, knockin over waters, wrigglin, squirmin. It was a hot mess. But I think they really had alot of fun.
The guest speaker was Denise Nicholas who talked about her stint with domestic violence, her new book Freshwater Road, and her career in film and t.v. There was also another woman who only recently migrated a year ago with her daughter from China. She talked about her years of domestic violence and how hard it was for her because in Chinese culture it is shameful to tell of family business no matter how horrific.
All in all, the night was one to remember. Too bad NOBODY took pictures, except for the camera man (but he was paid to do that). I did take a few pics with my camera phone but ask my azz how to upload them to my computer? LOL.

Those little girls are ADORABLE!
There needs to be more fundraisers and other events to support this issue. I hope the fundraiser was successful. Your mother is to be commended!
